Hello, art lovers and fellow enthusiasts! As the leaves start to turn those gorgeous shades of amber and crimson, and the crisp scent of autumn fills the air, there's no better time to celebrate the creativity blooming right here in our community. I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be participating in the 34th Annual Apples & Art Studio Tour as Stop #34 on this beloved two-day event. Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday, September 27th and 28th, from 10 AM to 4 PM—I'll be opening the doors to my studio gallery for my annual open house experience!
If you're new to the tour (or just need a refresher), the Apples & Art Studio Tour is a cherished Eastern Ontario tradition that invites you to step into the heart of local artistry. Spanning Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD&G) Counties, this self-guided adventure takes you to over 40 inspiring locations—from cozy artist studios and historic sites to charming orchards celebrating our region's famous apple harvest. It's all about connecting with creators in their element, chatting about techniques, watching demos, and discovering pieces that capture the soul of our landscapes. This year marks the tour's 34th edition, a testament to its enduring magic as a fall staple that blends visual delights with the bounty of the season.
As a contemporary Canadian artist, I'm beyond excited to share my world with you at Stop #34. My work focuses on contemporary landscapes that bridge the past and the present—think vibrant, evocative scenes of Ontario's natural beauty that whisper stories of tradition while boldly stepping into the future. Whether it's the rolling hills under a dramatic sky or the quiet serenity of islands in a lake, my paintings aim to evoke that sense of place we all hold dear. You'll find originals and a few prints available, with options for delivery within 100 km for larger paintings. (Pro tip: These pieces pair beautifully with transitional or traditional home designs—I've even had glowing feedback from design pros on how they add that perfect touch of warmth!)
What can you expect during your visit? A warm welcome, of course! Wander through my studio gallery, see my work in progress and about what inspires me to paint. I'll be on hand to share insights into my process— from initial sketches inspired by local hikes to the final brushstrokes that bring the canvas to life. It's not just a tour stop; it's a conversation starter. Who knows? You might even catch a live demo or snag a behind-the-scenes peek at works in progress.
This event is free and self-guided, so grab your tour map from the official Apples & Art studio tour website or Facebook page, lace up those comfy shoes, and make a day (or weekend) of it. With dozens of artists showcasing everything from acrylics and sculptures to mixed media and more, there's something to ignite every creative spark.
I can't wait to meet you, hear your stories, and perhaps send a little piece of my world home with you. Head over to barbelsmith.com for a sneak peek at my collection in the meantime, or drop me a line if you have questions. Let's make this 34th tour one for the books!
