Artist Statement
As a contemporary Canadian artist, my work is a deeply personal exploration of the landscapes that shape my spirit, particularly the vast and luminous beauty of Canada, the land I call home. My paintings are more than visual representations—they are a form of communication between heaven and earth, a way for my soul to connect with the eternal and glimpse the divine. Each canvas becomes a journey, where I reunite with creation and express the emotive interplay of light, shape, and color that defines the Canadian wilderness.
My artistic process is intuitive, guided by a passion to capture the essence of the landscape. Through layers of glazing, my paintings achieve a luminous glow, distilling the landscape into bold, surreal shapes. The vibrant, swirling forms of trees, in vivid hues, convey a whimsical yet spiritual interpretation of nature. Paired with serene reflections on still waters, these stylized shapes draw viewers into a dreamlike realm where the lines between reality and imagination softly blur.
I draw inspiration from the Group of Seven and the divine light of God’s revelation, which resonates deeply in my practice. Rooted in the belief that God’s glory shines through creation, I strive to infuse my paintings with a numinous quality that reflects His eternal presence, speaking to both the heart and the eye.
Using acrylic paint on gallery canvas, I emphasize line and color to evoke joy, peace, and wonder. Whether depicting a solitary red canoe by a lake or an island adorned with fantastical trees, my paintings aim to transport viewers to a place of tranquility and reflection—a moment to pause and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world.
My work is held in private and corporate collections across Canada and internationally, and I am honored to be a juried signature member of esteemed organizations, including the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), and the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA).
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to share the light and spiritual undercurrent of the landscape, encouraging others to see the world through a lens of curiosity and reverence. Each painting is an invitation to experience the harmony of creation, where the fleeting and eternal unite in a joyful dance of color and form.
